Custom Ductile Iron Gear Casting for a Metal Machining Application

A machinery manufacturer contracted us for this 9 tooth gear that would be part of a metal machining application. This ductile iron gear casting project was significant because it required a large size casting which was outside of usual purchased core capabilities.
This project utilized our Hunter 20-C (20X24 flask) automated molding machine, Dependable 200 core machine, and an outside purchased Iso-Cure core.
This gear was cast with a green sand mold, followed by shot blasting and grinding to tolerances of 1/32". Composed of ductile iron 80-55-06, the piece weighed 56.22 lbs. We performed final inspection, Brinell hardness testing, and visual inspections to ensure that each piece met the quality standards we demand of our products. The production run was 200 pieces and was completed and delivered to the customer's facility in 4 weeks.
Warsaw Foundry produces castings that exceed our client's expectations, leading to relationships that last for years. To learn more about this ductile iron gear casting project, please see the outline below or contact us today.
